Gore Leads Chorus of "We Shall Overcome;" Blacks Say: "That's One Stiff White Guy" Vice President Al Gore paid homeage to the late Martin Luther King Jr. last week by leading a predominantly African-American audience in a rendition of "We Shall Overcome." However, reaction to the performance was not favorable, according to those who were there: "I called 911 at one point, he was so stiff," laughed Lamar Hayes, who was in the audience. "He needs to loosen up that white ass of his," cackled Patricia Johnson, another observer. "Next time somebody better put a big ol' lamp shade over Al's head and stick him over in the corner," roared Jimmie Stevens, who was seated in the front row... The group sponsoring the event, American Africans for an African America(AAAA), said that Gore's performance was so horrible that next year they may invite him back to the same spot and then secretly meet in another location...
