And the Distinction Goes to...
United Nations Arms Inspectors
OK guys... Although Sue D. Nim remains ambivalent regarding this war thing with Iraq, a couple of things are crystal clear. First of all, one of the major conditions set at the conclusion of the Persian Gulf war was that these inspectors would be allowed into Iraq to monitor what was going on. Then, in 1998, as we all know, Saddam basically gave the world the finger and said you can't come in anymore. Whatever his logic was, the bottom line was that he broke the agreement. It isn't hard to make the case that one reason he broke the agreement is to get busy on his arsenal once again (yes, that's arsenal). Then, the noble UN showed how incredibly efficient they are when they basically shrugged their shoulders and said, "Oh well." So now, four years and one 9-11 later, the world is supposed to be comforted by the UN position that allowing the inspectors back in will make the world a safe and peaceful place? Whether we go to war with Iraq is one question, but when it comes to a deterrent to Saddam, you, my friends, are totally irrelevant... |
